This humidifier is the best match for my needs.
I really like this item and I feel it does a good job. I picked this for a few reasons:1. It’s cheap.2. It cools the air as it works (I’m always hot at night and we don’t have AC).3. I live in a dry climate (Eastern Idaho) so the “wicking” method works well here.I have two other similar humidifiers ( Vicks 1.0 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier ) that we use for white noise in our boys bedrooms because they are a bit louder (but they also seem to blow more air, even on the low setting). This humidifier is much quieter (especially on the low setting) it’s almost completely silent. I picked these same type of humidifiers because I wanted cool air and a sonic humidifier creates tiny dust particles from minerals in the water so I didn’t want that.I like how all three use the same filters which aren’t too expensive to replace ($8-9 each I think) and last 2-3 months for me but I usually get them to last a few months longer by soaking them in water with a couple cups of white vinegar and a bit of bleach (to kill any molds etc.) and they’re good as new for a while but eventually they start falling apart and I have to throw them away. Also my boys, age 1 and 3, love the starry night light on it that changes color. My one year old likes to climb on it and had knocked it over many times causing it to dump out all its water on the carpet. My only complaints about this item are:1. You can’t adjust the aim of the air and it blows out the bottom onto the floor. Don’t you want cool air directed upwards so it can mix with the warm air? The air at ground level is cool already!2. It leaks very easily with the slightest imbalance when you try moving it while there’s water in it.3. It must be placed on a perfectly level, water-proof piece of furniture or on the floor. I don’t own a single piece of furniture like that. I wish I could put it on the dresser but that’s just too risky because of spilled water.

Great Humidifier, not just for parents of small kids
I ended up buying this humidifier instead of the Honeywell one because it was $30 cheaper and the same 1 Gallon capacity. Very reasonably priced for an evaporative humidifier. This style doesn’t require distilled water, and is easier to clean and maintain than ultrasonic ones. The pink model was even cheaper, but I didn’t know the nightlight changes colors (I originally thought it was either blue or red and I didn’t want a red light). Operation is straightforward. It’s practically silent when running in Sleep Mode. The nightlight is a nice addition. It also comes with a slot for putting Vicks pouches that put menthol vapors into the air. That’s another nice feature, but one I wouldn’t use every day. Good when you have a cold or the flu though. I wish it had an auto-off feature, or a humidity sensor, but for around $50, I’m not complaining.

Bye Bye dry, stale air!
This humidifier is so me. I’m a star gazer. I become mesmerized by the stars & moon color pattern. This machine is fairly quiet. I love having the option to use the vapor pad, especially when my nose is stuffy or if I have a headache. This machine REALLY works! When the vapors permeate through the air, along w/ releasing moisture in the air, my stuffy nose and/or headache are gone! This machine doesn’t mist. You can tell it’s working b/c you’ll feel the cool air coming from it. I’m careful not move the unit once full w/ water, plugged in & turned on. I hear it can be a problem. No problems here! I just follow the instructions & make sure when I’m finished using it, I empty the water from it. This is a great humidifier that also is very cute & I plan to have it for a long time!PS- I use my humidifier every night in the winter time. I find that I only catch one cold during the entire winter. I think it’s due to always having a humidifier to keep the moisture in the air, especially b/c in the winter time the heater can make a place very dry and makes skin & materials brittle.

Leak Free 5 mo – Stars/Moon OK — color changing constantly is annoying
Update 8-10-21: The light was so bright and the color changing so unnerving between red and the other colors, that one kid refused to use the light, so we had to keep his older broken vicks humidifier for the moon and stars.. Within less than a year both of the humidifiers developed a loud ticking in the motor and one stopped working. The other ticks too loudly for my child to sleep. So currently we have 4 (FOUR) non-working Vick’s humidifiers (two are the cool mist Sweet Dreams ones — they leave tons of white dust around due to our hard water and two are the Starry Night filtered evaporative ones, both with motor issues). I like the idea of lights with a humidifier (obviously, I was taken in twice over by it!), but the product quality is close to 0 for humidifying. Interestingly enough, the lights are working well on all 4 — a kids night light would be much cheaper. Our humidifier hasn’t leaked after 5mo. I was worried about it from all the reviews. I am not sure why there was either a batch that did leak or a lot of user error in fully closing the tank. Regardless, we haven’t had a leak yet. Our water is very hard and we first had cool mist humidifiers and white dust everywhere until I learned more about it and bought this evaporative humidifier. I don’t love having to use filters, but we bought a cheap pack on Amazon. We use it every night on full blast and go through about 1 filter / mo. They get hard and crunchy and it stops making any mist (although you can’t really see the mist anyway, so you just have to trust its there or get a hydrometer.. which I want to do..The main issue I have with the unit is that the color changing lights are so bright and the red makes the room go nearly dim, then another bright light comes up after it. I thought it was one color or maybe two — it changes every few seconds and about 5 colors I think? Its so annoying that we actually have two humidifiers on the table in my kids room. The Vicks sweet dreams humidifier where the images slowly rotate between three images, and then the starry night humidifier to actually make the humidity. We have picky kids a bit too, but honestly I couldn’t sleep with like a nightclub light changing colors all through the night either, especially when it goes dark and then bright.
